I'm sure you will find something very similar, if not exact... I've done the same thing more than once

The other day I found the CRAZY shape with all kinds of swoops and turns and smooth edges... I was like YEA!!! But i got bored durring the render and started messing with gimp, and surfing the web... and my laptop(gameing laptop thats 3 years old) over heats and shuts off. I damn near kicked the cat.

oh believe me I have had my share of that sort of thing... my computer is well over five years old, and it often locks up if I try to surf or do other stuff while I render...

what I do now is, I do all my tweaking at about 480 or 500 pixels wide, and when I'm happy with the the image, I start the full size render, but as soon as it starts I save the parameters as both M3P and TXT files, so if anything goes wrong, I have the parameters to try again... I made it a habit, so I hardly ever forget to do it. Otherwise, I would have lost many of my best renders completely

Thats a good idea, the saving both M3P and TXT. I usually just do MP3. Not anymore.

I usually keep mine at 720 X 450. Its the same ratio as my computers screen resolution, and this fractal thing all started as a way to make backgrounds. I usually render at 5760 X 3600 and then use gimp to shrink it down when done. Some fractals take to long to render at that size. If its over 3 hours I tend to start lowering the resolution. The timer lies at high lengths... well not lies... just moves in a fractal dimension relative to ours ;)

yeah, I start with the lower resolution because it fits in the MB window on my small monitor. I usually do my renders at 3072X3072, if I'm doing square, 3072X 2048 or something if I want desktop sized... I originally planned to shrink them when I started doing them that large, but dA shrinks them onscreen anyway, and with the larger version I have more options for prints...

But the important thing is, as soon as you switch from the small size to the full size, and click the calc button, then immediately save the parameters... even if its only the M3P file, at least you have something saved...
